The Half Hollow Hills community is mourning the loss of Adam Stern, a recently retired teacher who dedicated his life to educating and inspiring students in the Half Hollow Hills Central School District. Adam passed away in Dix Hills, New York, leaving behind a legacy of passion, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to generations of learners.
Adam spent the majority of his professional career as a Social Studies teacher at Candlewood Middle School, where he touched countless lives with his knowledge, warmth, and commitment to student growth. Known not just as a teacher but as a mentor and leader, Adam also served as a soccer coach, track coach, and mock trial advisor, roles in which he consistently encouraged students to aim higher and believe in themselves.
A proud and active member of the Half Hollow Hills Teachers’ Association (HHHTA), Adam was deeply invested in the well-being of both his students and colleagues. Upon his retirement, the district honored him for his many years of outstanding service:
“Thank you, Adam, for your many years of service to our students, the HHHTA, and the HHH community! We wish you all the best as you move forward in the next chapter of your life.”
Sadly, Adam’s next chapter was cut short far too soon. His passing has left a profound emptiness in the hearts of all who knew him—from the classroom to the playing field, from faculty rooms to family dinners.
Adam Stern will be remembered as more than an educator; he was a pillar of the community, a coach with heart, and a role model to many. His impact will live on through the stories of students he empowered and the values he instilled.
