Blakely McCrory Obituary Bellaire TX, Died In Camp Mystic Flood

With broken hearts, we share the passing of Blakely McCrory, age 8, of Bellaire, Texas, who was tragically swept away during the catastrophic flash flooding at Camp Mystic on July 4, 2025.

Blakely had been at Camp Mystic, a beloved Christian girls’ camp in the Texas Hill Country, for just five days when historic floodwaters from the Guadalupe River tore through the area with unimaginable force. Despite desperate rescue efforts, she was separated from her cabin group, and her family has now confirmed the worst.

Blakely was a radiant and spirited little girl whose presence lit up every room she entered. She loved nature, crafts, singing camp songs, and making new friends — all of which made Camp Mystic a dream she was so excited to live. Her joy, kindness, and laughter were infectious, and even at such a young age, she left a mark on all who knew her.

Her grandfather, Douglas McLeod, shared in sorrow:

“We still have hope, but as the afternoon wore on yesterday, we had to face the fact that our Blakely might be gone.”

Blakely was among over 20 campers initially reported missing after floodwaters surged over 26 feet in under an hour — a disaster unmatched in the region since 1987. While many children were rescued, some, like Blakely, could not be reached in time.

She is remembered by her loving parents, family, friends, church community, and the many counselors and campers who cherished her sweet heart and bright spirit. The pain of her loss is immeasurable, but so is the love she inspired in her short time on Earth.

Blakely’s family asks for prayers, strength, and compassion as they walk through this heartbreak. They extend their deepest gratitude to the first responders, volunteers, and community members who have supported them during this tragedy.

A memorial service will be announced in the coming days. In honor of Blakely, the family encourages donations to be made to organizations supporting flood victims and children’s safety initiatives.

We mourn the loss of this precious girl and pray she is resting gently in the arms of God.
